US Elections 2024: Voters queue up in Virginia to cast their votes

As voting continues for the 2024 US Presidential Elections, voters in Virginia have gathered at polling stations, eagerly lining up to choose the nation’s next leader. In Rosslyn, voters were seen braving early-morning chill on Tuesday to make their voices heard in one of the most consequential elections in recent history.

Some voters shared their motivations at the polls. CJ Stowell, a Virginia resident, emphasized his desire for “stability” and continuity. “A lot of people are looking for stability, and I believe everyone has a right to their opinion. I am voting for an individual who will continue with the progress we have made over the last four years,” Stowell said.

Others, like Paul Lundberg, voiced support for shaking up the political landscape. “I am on my way to vote now… I would be voting against the establishment, so I’m voting for the wild outsider,” Lundberg said, adding his concerns about potential delays in vote counting, echoing recent comments by Elon Musk on the challenges of verifying results promptly.

While early exit polls will give a glimpse into voter sentiments, official results will be delayed until vote counting concludes across all states.

In this high-stakes election, the Democratic candidate is Vice President Kamala Harris, who, if elected, would become the first female and first Indian-origin President of the United States. On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump aims to return to the White House, marking what would be a rare comeback after his controversial 2020 defeat. If victorious, Trump would be the first president in over a century to serve two non-consecutive terms.

The race remains intensely competitive, with national polls projecting a near tie. According to data from ABC News’ FiveThirtyEight, Harris holds a slight edge at 48% to Trump’s 46.9%. Other major polls, including NBC News and Emerson College, forecast a 49%-49% deadlock, while Ipsos projects a three-point lead for Harris (49%-46%), and AtlasIntel gives Trump a slight advantage at 50%-48%.
