US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has called for predictable taxation, stable regulatory frameworks, stronger intellectual property protection and trust-based engagement on export controls and technology flows to further strengthen India-US commercial ties.
Speaking at the IACC National Convention 2026, Gor said bilateral trade in goods and services has grown from around USD 20 billion to more than USD 240 billion over the past two decades.
He said the two countries are working towards the shared goal of taking bilateral trade to USD 500 billion by 2030, describing the relationship as being built on “deep, unbreakable trust.”
Gor said the India-US commercial partnership has “unbelievable and incredible potential”, but stressed that key areas of concern need to be addressed to realise its full economic potential.
“We need predictable taxation and regulatory frameworks that allow business to thrive,” he said.
He also called for greater trust and transparency on export controls and technology flows, along with stronger intellectual property protections.
“We need candid, trust-based engagement on export controls and technology flows…we need rock-solid intellectual property protections, giving every innovator in this room the confidence to invest, create, and scale without fear,” Gor said.
The US envoy highlighted the role of businesses in strengthening commercial ties between the two countries and noted growing cooperation across sectors including artificial intelligence, technology, aerospace, defence and energy.
Gor also said US President Donald Trump has placed significant emphasis on relations with India and referred to a trust initiative launched by Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi early in Trump’s second term to deepen cooperation in strategic technologies.
According to Gor, the initiative seeks to accelerate collaboration in areas including AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, defence and critical minerals.
“President Trump trusts India, and he has invested heavily in this relationship from day one,” Gor said, adding that the initiative was aimed at using strategic technologies to accelerate cooperation between the two countries.
Gor also highlighted India’s growing role in the global technology ecosystem, referring to the Global AI Summit hosted by New Delhi.
He said the participation of a large number of US companies at the summit reflected India’s position as a key “crossroads” for advancing global technology cooperation.
The envoy’s remarks come amid efforts by India and the US to deepen commercial and strategic cooperation across emerging technologies, defence and other key sectors.
