US: Kamala Harris campaign raises USD 361 million in August, three times more than Donald Trump

US Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has raised a staggering USD 361 million in August, approximately three times more than the USD 130 million raised by her Republican rival Donald Trump, CNN reported.

This gives Harris a substantial USD 404 million in cash reserves for the final two-month sprint to Election Day, her campaign aides announced on Friday.

The cash accumulated by Harris’ affiliated committees surpasses the USD 295 million that Trump’s campaign has reported in its bank accounts. This highlights how much Harris’ historic and late-breaking candidacy has energized donors and reshaped the 2024 race, according to CNN. Notably, the USD 361 million is by far the largest monthly haul for either party this cycle.

At this pace, Harris is projected to collect over USD 1 billion in the shortened campaign period between her becoming the de facto party nominee in late July and Election Day. Her campaign also noted that she has already raised over USD 615 million since President Joe Biden withdrew his re-election bid on July 21.

Last month’s haul exceeded the USD 310 million Harris and the Democrats raised in July and came amid the excitement of her announcement of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. She also formally accepted the party’s nomination at last month’s celebrity-filled Chicago convention, which included appearances by Biden and two of his White House predecessors.

August 6, the day Harris announced Walz’s selection, marked the campaign’s third-strongest day of grassroots fundraising, campaign officials said.

While the August totals do not surpass the monthly fundraising record of USD 383 million set by the Biden-Harris political operation in September 2020, they highlight a strong showing. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign has seen a slowdown, raising slightly less in August compared to the USD 138.7 million collected in July.

Earlier reports by CNN analyzing donations over USD 200 million this cycle showed that some of Trump’s biggest fundraising days occurred in May, around the time of his felony conviction in New York, even exceeding the amounts raised in July during his party’s nominating convention.

Harris’ campaign officials stated they are focusing their funds on voter outreach, with plans for a “weekend of action” in the coming days featuring 2,000 events. They also announced a USD 370 million digital and TV ad campaign running through the election.

The campaign has established over 312 offices in partnership with the Democratic Party and employs more than 2,000 staffers across battleground states but cautioned that a close, hard-fought contest is expected in the final stretch.
