Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday addressed the 20th convocation of Mizoram University in Aizawl and urged graduating students to play a key role in building a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
Congratulating the graduates, the Vice-President said the youth of the country are the architects of India’s future and called on them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Noting the scenic beauty of the campus, V-P Radhakrishnan said that Mizoram University is among the most beautiful campuses in the country and stands as a symbol of what education can achieve when it is rooted in peace and purpose.
Highlighting the transformation of the Northeast over the past decade, he said the region is now defined by its closeness to opportunity rather than its distance from Delhi.
The Vice-President said improved connectivity, including the recently inaugurated Bairabi–Sairang railway line, along with initiatives such as UDAN and PM-DevINE, are helping accelerate development and expand opportunities in the region.
Emphasising the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, he urged young people to move beyond seeking jobs and instead focus on creating opportunities. He also highlighted the Northeast’s potential in sectors such as tourism, bamboo-based industries, organic agriculture, handicrafts and digital services.
Expressing concern over the growing menace of drug abuse among youth, the Vice-President urged young people to stay away from narcotics and lead disciplined and purposeful lives.
He also advised students to use technology and social media responsibly, saying they should strive to become masters of technology rather than its servants.
Praising Mizoram’s natural heritage and high literacy levels, Radhakrishnan commended the state’s strong tribal traditions and environmental consciousness.
He also appreciated Mizoram University’s efforts to operate substantially on solar energy and encouraged young people to take leadership in promoting environmental sustainability.
The convocation was attended by Mizoram Governor and Chief Rector of the university General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, along with faculty members, parents and graduating students.
