Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan will address the 18th Civil Services Day event today at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
The event, organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, will bring together senior government officials from across the country to reflect on governance and public service.
The Civil Services Day is observed annually as an occasion for the Civil Servants across India to rededicate themselves to the cause of citizens and renew their commitment to public service and excellence in their work. The day commemorates the historic address by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1947, when he described civil servants as the “steel frame of India.”
The theme for this year’s event is “Viksit Bharat: Citizen-Centric Governance and Development at the Last Mile,” aligning with the vision of a developed India by 2047. It emphasises transparency, accountability, and inclusive development, with a strong focus on last-mile delivery of services.
The inaugural session will feature an address by Union Minister Jitendra Singh and a welcome address by Cabinet Secretary T. V. Somanathan. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the role and effectiveness of civil services, bringing together experts from government, industry, and policy institutions.
Four thematic sessions are scheduled during the day, focusing on key governance priorities. These include discussions on sustainable livelihoods under the PM Vishwakarma initiative, tackling non-communicable diseases, mitigating financial risks for farmers through schemes such as the Kisan Credit Card, and accelerating India’s net-zero goals through renewable energy initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
The sessions will be chaired by senior ministers, including Union Ministers Jitan Ram Manjhi, Jagat Prakash Nadda, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and will involve detailed discussions on improving governance and service delivery.
The event will conclude with an address by the Cabinet Secretary on ethics and efficiency in civil services.
Senior officials from the central and state governments, including secretaries, chief secretaries, and district collectors, are expected to participate in the day-long programme, reflecting a nationwide commitment to strengthening governance and public administration.
