Vinesh Phogat secures historic olympic final spot, assures silver for India

Vinesh Phogat made history on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final after a dominant 5-0 victory over Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the women’s freestyle 50kg semi-final.

Earlier in the competition, Vinesh delivered a stunning upset by defeating world No. 1 and defending champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the Round of 16. She continued her remarkable run by narrowly overcoming Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals.

With this semi-final triumph, Vinesh has assured herself of at least a silver medal, marking a significant achievement for Indian wrestling. However, her sights are firmly set on the gold as she prepares to compete in the final.

Vinesh Phogat’s historic run has not only assured India of a silver medal but also heightened hopes for a golden finish in the Olympic final.
