West Indies crush Pakistan by 202 runs, seal first ODI series victory since 1991

Shai Hope’s unbeaten 120 and Jayden Seales’ career-best 6/18 handed West Indies their first ODI series win over Pakistan since 1991, as the hosts romped to a 202-run victory in the decider at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Batting first after losing the toss, West Indies recovered from early setbacks to post 294/6, the highest total of the three-match series. Hope, coming in at No. 4, anchored the innings with his 18th ODI hundred, moving past Desmond Haynes (17) to third on the West Indies’ all-time list, behind Chris Gayle (25) and Brian Lara (19).

Hope shared key stands with Roston Chase (36) and Justin Greaves (43*), the latter in a game-turning 110-run partnership off just 49 balls that powered the hosts to 119 runs in the last 10 overs. Pakistan’s bowling was led by Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed with two wickets each.

Chasing 295, Pakistan folded for 92 in 29.2 overs. Seales blew away the top order in a fiery opening spell, reducing the visitors to 23/4. His figures were the third-best for West Indies in ODIs, and the best by any West Indian against Pakistan.

Salman Ali Agha (30) offered brief resistance before Gudakesh Motie’s breakthrough opened the floodgates again, with the last five wickets tumbling for 31 runs.

The series win is West Indies’ first over Pakistan since their 2-0 victory in November 1991 under the captaincy of Richie Richardson.
