Wimbledon 2024 final: Carlos Alcaraz beats Novak Djokovic to retain crown

Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz won his second consecutive Wimbledon title on Sunday, defeating Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at Centre Court in London. With this victory, Alcaraz becomes only the sixth man to win both the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year.

Alcaraz started strong, taking command of the match by winning the first set 6-2 against the Serbian. The first set was one-sided, as Alcaraz secured a double break and wrapped it up in just 41 minutes.

Maintaining his momentum, Alcaraz won the second set 6-2. Djokovic struggled throughout this set and was unable to mount a comeback.

In the third set, Djokovic attempted a resurgence, but Alcaraz held firm. Djokovic began well and put up a tough fight, but Alcaraz forced the set into a tiebreak. The Spaniard kept his composure and won the tiebreak 7-4.

Dominating from the start, Alcaraz secured the Wimbledon 2024 final in straight sets.

In the semi-finals, Alcaraz faced fourth-seeded Daniil Medvedev. Despite losing the first set, he made a strong comeback to win 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Meanwhile, second-seeded Novak Djokovic defeated Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets 6-4, 7-6, 6-4 to reach the final.

Last year, Alcaraz and Djokovic played a marathon final at Centre Court, lasting four hours and 42 minutes—the third-longest Wimbledon final in history. Alcaraz won his second Grand Slam title after a thrilling battle, ending Djokovic’s quest for a fifth consecutive Wimbledon title.

Ranked third in the ATP tennis rankings, Carlos Alcaraz also won the French Open men’s singles title last month, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final.
