The Ministry of Women and Child Development will organise a women-led walk titled “Shakti Walk – #SheLeadsBharat” on March 8 along Kartavya Path in the national capital as part of the celebrations of International Women’s Day.
The event aims to highlight the central role women play in shaping a progressive and inclusive India and to celebrate their leadership and contributions across various sectors.
International Women’s Day, observed globally on March 8, recognises the achievements, leadership and contributions of women in all spheres of life and reiterates the commitment to gender equality, safety, dignity and empowerment.
According to the ministry, the walk will take place from 7:30 am to 10:00 am, covering an approximate two-kilometre stretch from India Gate to Vijay Chowk along Kartavya Path.
Around 3,000 women from more than 150 ministries, departments and organisations are expected to participate. These include representatives from the Armed Forces, police, media, healthcare, sports, government institutions, industry and grassroots organisations.
Women officers from various ministries and departments of the Government of India, as well as representatives from international organisations, have also been invited to join the event.
The walk will be led by women public representatives, including Union Ministers, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, MLAs and other prominent women leaders and personalities from diverse fields.
The programme will begin with brief addresses by dignitaries, followed by the ceremonial flag-off of the walk.
Installations showcasing key government schemes for women and highlighting achievements of women across sectors will be displayed along Kartavya Path.
A curated cultural presentation at India Gate will celebrate the spirit of womanhood and national pride. The performances will include Dollu Kunitha, Kalaripayattu, Sringarimelam, Ranchandi and Ghoomar, representing the cultural diversity and strength of women across India.
The presentation will begin with a mass rendition of “Vande Mataram”, and balloons carrying the message “Shakti Walk – #SheLeadsBharat” will also be released.
The event is part of broader celebrations recognising the role of women in advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
