Women’s representation key to inclusive democracy: Mansukh Mandaviya

Mera Yuva Bharat, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, organised a Women Youth Parliament on the theme “Nari Shakti: Viksit Bharat ki Awaaz – Strengthening Inclusive Democracy” at Shri Ram College of Commerce, bringing together young women to engage with democratic processes and policy discussions.

Addressing the event on Sunday, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, said that women’s participation in Parliament is crucial for strengthening India’s democracy. He highlighted how inclusive governance empowers women to rise to leadership roles and contributes to national progress.

Referring to the upcoming special session on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam from April 16 to 18, Mandaviya described the legislation as a historic reform aimed at ensuring greater representation of women in legislatures and advancing the vision of a developed India.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said women are central to nation-building and their participation in politics leads to more inclusive and effective policymaking. He emphasised the need for greater involvement of women in decision-making roles.

The event saw participation from over 500 women, including 37 young delegates from Delhi and Uttarakhand who took part in a mock youth parliament representing different ministries.

Participants presented their views on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, highlighting the importance of women’s leadership and inclusive governance. The exercise aimed to build confidence, leadership skills and civic awareness among young women.

Other dignitaries present included Nitesh Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary in the ministry, Priyanka Shukla, and Simrit Kaur, Principal of Shri Ram College of Commerce.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Priyanka Shukla, who acknowledged the contributions of participants and organisers, as the programme highlighted the growing role of women in shaping a developed and inclusive India.
