India’s gold rush continued with Deepthi Jeevanji clinching another gold for India in the Women’s 400m-T20, setting a new Asian Para Record and Games Record with a blazing time of 56.69.
On day 1 of the games, India won 17 medals including 6 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze. Ankur Dhama won gold in Men’s 5000m T11 after which PM Modi congratulated him and commended him for his ‘remarkable and awe-inspiring’ performance.

Meanwhile, in Men’s High Jump T63, India swept the podium with all three wins- Shailesh Kumar (gold), Mariyappan Thangavelu (silver) and Ram Singh Padhiyar (bronze). On the other hand, Praveen Kumar clinched the gold medal in the T64 Men’s High Jump final event with a phenomenal jump of 2.02m.
In Men’s 60 Kg J1 Judo event, Kapil Parmar brought glory to the country by bagging the silver medal.
Another clean sweep on the podium was witnessed when India’s Pranav Soorma, Dharambir and Amit Siroha clinched the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in the Men’s Club Throw- F51, on the first day of the Asian Para Games.
Para-athlete Avani Lekhara continued her good performance at the Asian Games too. She bagged the gold medal in the Women’s R2 10m Air Rifle Stand SH1 event in Asian Para Games.
The Indian contingent is leaving a remarkable feat in every event that they are participating in and raising high hopes.
