A flourishing partnership: Education ties between India and the UAE

In recent weeks, the educational relationship between India and the United Arab Emirates has seen significant advancements, highlighting a growing partnership poised to influence the future of academic excellence in both nations. At the forefront of these developments is the inauguration of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus, marking a pivotal moment in international education.

The prestigious IIT Delhi, renowned for its engineering prowess, has expanded its global footprint with the opening of its Abu Dhabi campus. The inauguration, officiated by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, is more than just a ceremonial event; it represents a monumental step in enhancing educational opportunities in the UAE. The first cohort of students, selected through a rigorous process, reflects a diverse blend of talent from India, the Emirates, and beyond, emphasizing the campus’s commitment to academic excellence.

This campus is part of a broader strategic vision signed by the leaders of both nations, aimed at fostering collaboration and deepening the ties between India and the UAE. With state-of-the-art facilities set in a picturesque environment, the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus not only embodies the growing partnership but also stands as a beacon of progress in international engineering education.

In addition to the IIT Delhi campus, the UAE’s educational landscape is also benefiting from the recent establishment of the CBSE Regional Office and Centre of Excellence in Dubai. Launched with official approval from the CBSE Governing Body and inaugurated during the Prime Minister of India’s visit to the UAE in February 2024, this new office represents a significant leap forward in providing support to the Indian educational community in the region.

Dr. Ram Shankar, Director of the CBSE Regional Office and Centre of Excellence, recently outlined the board’s mission at a gathering held at the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi. The CBSE’s approach emphasizes professional development for educators, with a focus on outcome-based learning that prioritizes student comprehension and application over rote memorization. The introduction of new skill subjects, art-integrated learning, and health education reflects a holistic approach to education that aligns with global advancements.

On Teachers’ Day, the CBSE office in Dubai hosted a significant event to mark the opening of its first Regional Office and Centre of Excellence outside India. This session brought together CBSE officials, representatives from the Consulate General of India in Dubai, and principals from schools across the region. The Centre of Excellence is set to provide in-service training for educators, equipping them with cutting-edge skills and knowledge to advance their teaching practices.

These recent developments underscore the strengthening educational ties between India and the UAE. With the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus and the CBSE’s proactive outreach, the partnership is poised to foster academic excellence, drive innovation, and create a future filled with opportunities for students and educators alike.
