A splendid achievement: PM Modi hails Manish Narwal for winning silver at Paris Paralympics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Indian para shooter Manish Narwal for his remarkable performance at the Paris Paralympics on Friday, where he secured a silver medal.

Narwal earned his silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event, achieving a score of 234.9 points. Despite facing challenges during the match and briefly dropping to sixth place, Narwal maintained his composure and finished strong, claiming the second spot in the final.

PM Modi took to his official X handle to extend his congratulations to Narwal. The Prime Minister noted that the para-shooter’s dedication and focus had once again brought pride to the nation. “A splendid achievement by Manish Narwal, as he wins the Silver in the P1 Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event. His precision, focus and dedication have once again brought glory,” PM Modi wrote.

South Korea’s Jeongdu Jo won the gold medal with a score of 237.4 points, while China’s Chao Yang secured the bronze with 214.3 points.

Earlier in the day, Avani Lekhara added to India’s medal tally by winning gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final. In the same event, Mona Agarwal claimed the bronze. Additionally, para sprinter Preethi Pal won bronze in the Women’s T35 100m race.

India’s campaign at the Paris Paralympics has begun on a high note, with the nation’s athletes showing resilience and skill. This year, India has sent its largest-ever Paralympic contingent, consisting of 84 athletes across 12 sports, reflecting the country’s growing commitment to para-sports.

India’s participation in the Paris 2024 Paralympics aims to surpass the achievements of Tokyo 2020, which was the country’s most successful Paralympic Games, yielding 19 medals, including five golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes.
