After Bangladesh election victory, India’s high commissioner extends congratulations to PM Hasina

In their meeting, Verma conveyed warm greetings and congratulations on behalf of the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking the first diplomatic interaction after Hasina's electoral triumph.

Expressing optimism, Verma highlighted the potential for strengthened momentum and growth in the bilateral partnership during the new term of Prime Minister Hasina's government. He reiterated India's commitment to supporting Bangladesh in realizing its vision of a stable, progressive, and prosperous nation, building on the enduring friendship and shared sacrifices from the Liberation War.

PM Hasina on Sunday said that Bangladesh is fortunate to have India as a trusted friend. She acknowledged India's support during the liberation war and the shelter provided afterward, offering best wishes to the people of India.

The Awami League, Hasina's party, secured a two-thirds majority in the parliament, clinching its fourth consecutive term by winning 223 out of 299 seats. The main opposition party, Jatiya Party, secured only 11 seats, while independents won 62 seats. The remaining three seats were won by other parties.
