AI Impact Summit 2026: India releases AI casebooks on energy and accessibility

India on Tuesday released AI Impact Casebooks focusing on Energy and Accessibility at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, bringing together global experiences on the use of artificial intelligence for sustainable development and inclusive growth, according to a statement from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The publications compile AI use cases and best practices from across countries and have been prepared through collaboration among government ministries, international agencies, research organisations and foundations. They are intended to serve as long-term knowledge resources for policymakers and practitioners.

The Energy compendium, developed in partnership with the International Energy Agency, highlights the dual role of AI in the energy transition. While rising compute requirements are driving additional electricity demand, AI is also helping improve energy system efficiency. The compendium documents applications in grid optimisation, renewable energy integration, data centre efficiency and emerging solutions aimed at balancing growing compute needs with climate commitments.

The Accessibility volume presents AI-led interventions across assistive devices, early diagnosis, adaptive learning, advanced prosthetics and mental health support, while underscoring the importance of privacy safeguards, ethical deployment and culturally contextual innovation.

Speaking at the launch, Abhishek Singh, Director General of NIC, Additional Secretary at MeitY and CEO of India AI, said a key outcome of pre-summit consultations was the need to compile AI use cases, best practices and global learnings across priority sectors. He said the compendia would serve as guidebooks for countries, particularly in the Global South, where many development challenges are similar, and would help governments and innovators replicate successful solutions, connect with startups and scale impactful interventions.

Siddharth Singh from the World Energy Outlook, Office of the Chief Energy Economist at the IEA, said that while much attention is paid to the energy demand created by AI, it is equally important to recognise its positive impact on the energy sector. He said the initiative could encourage greater focus on productive uses of AI that benefit the economy and society.

The launch was attended by Piyush Singh, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Power; Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy; Praveen Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of ALIMCO; and Abhay Bakre, Mission Director of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

According to the ministry, the casebooks are intended to support cross-country learning, enable replication of proven models and strengthen the evidence base for deploying AI in areas related to climate action and social inclusion.
