CEOs of AI and deep-tech startups on Friday praised India’s “supportive and dynamic environment” for artificial intelligence after a roundtable interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit.
According to an official statement, PM Modi stressed the importance of promoting Indian languages and culture and called for expanding AI tools for higher education in mother tongues.
The participating startups are working on population-scale challenges across sectors including healthcare, agriculture, cybersecurity, ethical AI and space. Several ventures are also focused on social empowerment through vernacular access to justice and education, ethical AI frameworks and modernising legacy enterprise systems.
“The country now offers a supportive and dynamic environment for AI advancement, firmly establishing its presence on the global AI landscape,” the startups said, adding that the global momentum of AI innovation and deployment is increasingly shifting towards India.
They also described the India AI Impact Summit as reflecting the country’s growing stature in global AI conversations.
The participation ranged from companies developing advanced diagnostics, gene therapy and patient record management systems to firms using geospatial and underwater intelligence to improve productivity and manage climate risks.
Congratulating innovators for taking bold risks, PM Modi discussed the use of AI in agriculture and environmental protection, including monitoring crop productivity and fertiliser usage to safeguard soil health. He emphasised the need for strong data governance, cautioned against misinformation and urged solutions tailored to India’s needs.
Referring to UPI as a model of simple and scalable digital innovation, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in Indian companies and encouraged trust in domestic products. He also highlighted strong investor interest in Indian startups and called for expanding private participation in the space sector.
