Amit Shah orders crackdown on networks aiding Bangladeshi, Rohingya intruders

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed authorities to dismantle the entire network facilitating the illegal entry, documentation, and settlement of Bangladeshi and Rohingya intruders in India. The directive came during a high-level meeting on Thursday with newly elected Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Home Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, and senior officials.

Emphasizing national security concerns, Shah said that illegal intruders must be strictly dealt with and identified for deportation. “Take strict action against the entire network that assists Bangladeshi and Rohingya intruders in entering the country, obtaining documents, and settling here. This issue is directly linked to national security and must be handled with utmost seriousness,” the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement.

The meeting, the first of its kind in a decade to include a Delhi Chief Minister, was held just days after Rekha Gupta took oath as Delhi’s fourth woman CM on February 20. Shah reiterated that under the “double-engine government,” as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi would see accelerated development and improved security.

Among the key directives issued, the Home Minister instructed the Delhi Police Commissioner to take strong action against police stations and subdivisions that have consistently underperformed. He also emphasized a ruthless crackdown on interstate gangs operating in Delhi, stressing the need for a comprehensive “top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top” approach to dismantle narcotics networks.

Addressing concerns over law and order, Shah directed the Delhi government to appoint special prosecutors to expedite cases related to the 2020 Delhi riots. He also called for an immediate start to police recruitment for additional posts and instructed DCP-level officers to visit police stations, conduct public hearings, and address grievances.

For improved safety in JJ clusters, the Home Minister suggested forming new security committees, particularly focusing on the protection of women and children. Additionally, he ordered Delhi Police to identify daily traffic congestion points and collaborate with the Chief Secretary for swift resolutions.

To tackle the recurring issue of waterlogging, Shah advised the Delhi government to prepare a “Monsoon Action Plan” by identifying vulnerable locations and implementing preventive measures.

The nearly two-hour-long meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, the Director of Intelligence Bureau, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi Police, and the Delhi government. Delhi Police also presented a detailed report on the city’s law and order situation, focusing on enhancing coordination with the new Delhi government to strengthen policing measures and address emerging security threats.
