Ashwini Vaishnaw takes charge as Minister of Railways for second term

Ashwini Vaishnaw took charge of the Railway Ministry for a second term on Tuesday.

In addition to the Railways portfolio, Vaishnaw has been allotted two other charges: Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Minister of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

During a press interaction, Vaishnaw highlighted major achievements in the railway sector during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s previous tenure of 10 years. He expressed gratitude to PM Modi, emphasizing his deep emotional connection with the Indian Railways.

“People have blessed PM Modi again to serve the country. Railways will have a very big role,” Vaishnaw said. “In the last 10 years, PM Narendra Modi has implemented several reforms in railways, including electrification, construction of new tracks, introduction of new train types and services, and redevelopment of stations.”

“The PM has kept railways in focus because it’s a common man’s mode of transport and a very strong backbone of our country’s economy,” Vaishnaw added.

Vaishnaw will oversee the modernization and expansion of India’s railway network, a crucial element for national connectivity and economic growth.

As Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Vaishnaw will play a pivotal role in regulating and facilitating the media landscape, ensuring press freedom and development while addressing challenges posed by digital transformation and misinformation.

Additionally, as Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Vaishnaw will play a crucial role in advancing India’s digital economy, promoting IT innovations, and developing robust cybersecurity frameworks.
