The airport's new name pays homage to Maharishi Valmiki, the sage credited with composing the epic Ramayana. Ayodhya is poised to become a vital economic hub and pilgrimage destination, aligning with its historical and cultural significance.
Along with this, the Union Cabinet has also approved the “PRITHvi VIgyan (PRITHVI)” scheme by the Ministry of Earth Sciences. With an overall cost of Rs. 4,797 crore for the period 2021-26, the scheme includes five ongoing sub-schemes focusing on atmosphere and climate research, ocean services, polar science, seismology, and geosciences, along with research, education, training, and outreach.
The key objectives of the PRITHVI scheme include sustaining long-term observations of Earth's vital signs, developing modeling systems for weather prediction and climate change understanding, exploring polar and high seas regions, developing technology for sustainable oceanic resource harnessing, and translating scientific knowledge into societal, environmental, and economic benefits.
