CBSE clarifies no security breach in on-screen marking evaluation portal

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday clarified that there has been no security breach in its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for the evaluation of answer books, dismissing claims made by a social media user regarding the alleged compromise of the portal.

The clarification came after a user on social media claimed that the CBSE OSM portal bearing the URL “http://cbse.onmark.co.in” had been compromised on February 26, 2026. The allegation also led to a few media reports raising concerns over the security of the Board’s digital evaluation system.

Responding to the claims, the CBSE said that the portal referred to in the social media post was not the one used for the actual evaluation of answer sheets.

“At the outset, it is clarified that the portal used for evaluation of answer books bore a different URL, which has neither been compromised nor has the vulnerabilities indicated in the said social media post,” the Board said.

According to the CBSE, the URL (http://cbse.onmark.co.in) mentioned in the post is only a testing platform containing sample data meant for internal testing and review purposes. The Board clarified that no real evaluation records, marks or confidential student data are stored on that portal.

“There are no actual evaluation data, marks or other data held on that portal,” the statement said, adding that no security breaches had been detected in the portal deployed for the actual evaluation work.

The Board further emphasised that the On-Screen Marking system was introduced to enhance transparency in the assessment process and includes strong grievance redressal mechanisms.

Reassuring students, parents and other stakeholders, the CBSE said robust safeguards have been implemented to maintain the integrity and security of the evaluation platform.
