Keeping in mind Panchamrita commitment of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ministry of Coal has given the task to Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to draft net zero plan for the coal mining sector. PM Modi proposed Panchamrita in global climate meet in Glasgow. PM said India will meet 50 per cent of its energy requirements till 2030 with renewable energy.
On Tuesday, Union Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi said coal PSUs have made an investment plan of Rs 2.5 lakh crore for developing renewable energy (projects), installing clean coal technologies and new mine development projects.
According to an official statement, Coal PSUs have planned to scale up their total installed renewable energy capacity to 7,231 megawatt (MW) by 2027.
India is committed for climate solution and renewable energy is being explored. GOI has taken many initiative to shift focus on renewable energy.
About 1,600 MW of renewable capacity has already been created till March 2023, by the PSUs Coal India Ltd (CIL), NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). By 2027, Coal PSUs have planned to scale up thier renewable energy capacity to produce 7,231 megawatt (MW).
As per the national commitment, Coal PSUs have meticulously prepared a three years action plan outlining specific renewable targets.
CIL and its subsidiaries are actively setting up large-scale solar power plants on its de-coaled land and overburden dumps. They are also equipping all houses in the coal subsidiary companies with rooftop solar facilities. De coaled land and overburden dumps are being used effectively in this way keeping the nature in the mind.
CIL and NLCIL are planning to establish large solar parks in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Ministry of Coal has advised coal companies to explore the sutiable are to set up solar parks across the nation.
The Ministry of Coal has ambitious plans to contribute significantly to the country's renewable energy requirements. PSUs have been advised to work in this direction deligently.
