The central government has convened an all-party meeting on Thursday to brief political leaders on Operation Sindoor, the military strike carried out by Indian armed forces a day earlier against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Political parties will be apprised of key aspects of the operation, including its objectives, specific terror targets struck, strategic outcomes, and India’s state of readiness in case of any retaliatory action from Pakistan.
Describing the strikes, the government said they were “measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible,” aimed at dismantling terror networks and preventing further attacks following the April 22 massacre in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju shared details of the meeting on X, saying it will be held at 11 a.m. on May 8, 2025, in Committee Room G-074 of the Parliament Library Building, New Delhi.
The strikes—conducted early Wednesday—targeted nine terror facilities, including Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters in Muridke and training camps in Bahawalpur, long known as hubs for extremist activity. The 25-minute operation took place between 1:05 a.m. and 1:30 a.m.
“Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted,” the government said in a statement. “India has demonstrated considerable restraint in its selection of targets and method of execution.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier briefed President Droupadi Murmu on the operation at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized that India’s intent was to degrade terrorist infrastructure while minimizing civilian harm and avoiding broader conflict.
“Operation Sindoor was a proportionate and responsible response to Pakistan’s ongoing support for terrorism,” Misri said. He added that Pakistan has continued to deny and deflect instead of addressing its role in harboring terror actors.
“This government has kept its promise—those responsible will be held accountable,” the statement added, reinforcing India’s resolve to counter cross-border terrorism.
The operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, in Baisaran Valley.
Leaders across party lines have voiced support for the armed forces. Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, posted on X: “Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!”
