Centre orders govt hospital heads to file FIRs within 6 hours of violent incidents

The Union Health Ministry has implemented new regulations to enhance the safety of doctors and healthcare workers, issuing a stringent directive for government hospitals and medical colleges on Friday.

Under the new order, any act of violence against hospital staff must be reported to the police within six hours of the incident. The responsibility for lodging these complaints falls directly on the head of the concerned institution.

The directive, issued by the Directorate General of Health Services, comes in response to a recent uptick in reported incidents of violence against medical professionals. The order mandates that all such incidents be reported to the institution’s head within six hours, who is then tasked with ensuring that an FIR is promptly filed.

This measure applies to all AIIMS facilities and medical colleges, aiming to provide a safer working environment for healthcare workers across the country.
