The Delhi government has announced the establishment of special courts dedicated to addressing the needs of people with disabilities.
The initiative, approved by Chief Minister Atishi, aims to streamline the judicial process for individuals with disabilities, providing them with fair, swift, and inclusive justice.
“This is a historic step by the Delhi government toward ensuring justice for people with disabilities,” said CM Atishi. “By approving the establishment of these special courts, we are reforming the judicial system to better serve the interests of those with disabilities.”
The chief minister emphasized that the new courts will reduce the challenges disabled individuals face when accessing legal services. The move is intended to strengthen their trust in the justice system and ensure that their rights are protected.
“People with disabilities are an integral part of our society, and we must protect their rights. These special courts will ease their participation in legal proceedings and eliminate the barriers they often encounter,” she added.
The special courts will focus on resolving cases involving individuals with disabilities promptly, helping avoid unnecessary delays and procedural complexities. They will also be designed to accommodate the specific needs of persons with disabilities, ensuring that judicial proceedings are conducted in an inclusive and accessible environment.
“At the heart of this initiative is the principle that no person with a disability should be denied justice. Simplifying the judicial process for them is our priority,” Atishi stressed.
Calling the decision a crucial step in judicial reform, Atishi added, “These courts not only protect the interests of people with disabilities but also open new avenues for equality and justice in society. The Delhi government remains committed to safeguarding the rights of people with disabilities, and this initiative is an essential part of that commitment.”
