DGCA issues show cause notice to Air India over passenger discomfort

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show cause notice to Air India on Friday for inordinate delay of at least two international flights and failure to take due care of passengers.

An Air India flight from Delhi that was to leave for San Francisco on Thursday was delayed by over 24 hours, and passengers were allegedly made to board the flight and sit without any air conditioning, due to which some of them fainted.

Air India has been asked to respond within three days or face potential enforcement action.

The aviation regulator noted that Air India is “time and again failing in taking due care of passengers”, and not complying with its provisions related to facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights. DGCA issued the show cause notice after Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took strict cognizance of flight delays and inconvenience caused to passengers.
