Drone attack damages Kuwait’s main commercial port amid rising West Asia tensions

Smoke rises after Iranian-sourced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) carried out an attack on a fuel depot at Kuwait International Airport in Kuwait City, Kuwait on March 25, 2026.

Kuwait said on Friday that its main commercial hub, Shuwaikh Port, was targeted in a drone attack, causing material damage but no injuries. The Kuwait Ports Authority said unmanned aerial vehicles struck the port early in the morning, damaging facilities and prompting the immediate activation of emergency procedures in coordination with relevant agencies. Officials did not specify the extent of the damage but confirmed that operations were being assessed following the incident. Shuwaikh Port, located in an industrial area near Kuwait City, serves as Kuwait’s primary maritime trade hub, handling cargo storage, distribution and commercial shipping. The facility plays a central role in the country’s supply chain, and any disruption could have implications for trade flows and logistics.

The incident comes as tensions continue to escalate across West Asia following the joint U.S.-Israeli offensive on Iran launched on February 28. Since then, Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and other locations across the region, including areas hosting U.S. military assets.
