EAM Jaishankar meets Seychelles President, highlights vision MAHASAGAR

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday called on Patrick Herminie, who is on a state visit to India aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors, including maritime security and economic development.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said he was delighted to meet President Herminie and highlighted Seychelles’ support for India’s Vision MAHASAGAR. He noted that as maritime neighbours, both countries share a common interest in advancing economic prosperity and security in the Indian Ocean region. The External Affairs Minister expressed confidence that President Herminie’s engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi would open new avenues for bilateral cooperation.

President Herminie arrived in India at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. This marks his first visit to India since assuming office in October 2025 and coincides with the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.

During his visit, President Herminie is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Modi on a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

In addition to engagements in New Delhi, the Seychelles President will visit other Indian cities and participate in business-related events aimed at enhancing economic engagement and investment cooperation between the two countries. The visit reflects the shared commitment of India and Seychelles to maritime security, sustainable development and regional stability in the Indian Ocean region.

Welcoming the President earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs said the visit commemorates five decades of strong and multifaceted India–Seychelles ties. President Herminie was sworn in as the sixth President of Seychelles in October 2025, with India represented at the ceremony by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan.

The state visit is expected to further consolidate the India–Seychelles partnership and strengthen cooperation in trade, security and regional development, in line with the shared vision of maritime collaboration under Vision MAHASAGAR.
