Election Commission’s Measures Ensure Smooth Voting Process

The Election Commission of India has put in place several measures to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of the General Elections 2024. With central forces deployed at polling stations to secure the voting process, the Commission is taking decisive steps to maintain order and integrity.

Webcasting will cover more than 50% of polling stations, along with micro observers stationed at every polling station to ensure transparency. Additionally, 361 observers, including general, police, and expenditure observers, have been deployed to maintain vigilance. Special observers are also assigned to certain states.

To tackle any attempts to influence voters, a comprehensive surveillance system has been set up, comprising flying squads, surveillance teams, and video monitoring teams. Border check posts are also vigilant against the illicit flow of liquor, drugs, cash, and freebies.

Special provisions have been made to facilitate voting for elderly and persons with disabilities (PwD). Options such as home voting and facilities at polling stations, including pick-up and drop services, wheelchair access, and other amenities, ensure that every voter can exercise their right comfortably.

Model polling stations with local themes, managed predominantly by women and PwDs, further enhance inclusivity. Voter information slips have been distributed, and alternative documents for identity verification are accepted at polling stations.

To combat misinformation, voters are encouraged to verify information through authenticated sources provided by the Election Commission. The ECI KYC app and candidate affidavit portal offer details about contesting candidates, including their background and criminal records.

Media coverage of polling stations is facilitated through authorized letters, and voter turnout can be tracked in real-time through the ECI voter turnout app. A dedicated website for Elections 2024 provides comprehensive information for stakeholders.
