The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on Friday reported the addition of 15.43 lakh new employees under the ESI Scheme, according to provisional payroll data released by the Ministry of Labour & Employment. This growth reflects the scheme’s expanding reach in providing social security to workers across India.
The data indicates that 23,526 new establishments were registered under the ESI Scheme during the same month, bringing more workplaces under the social security framework. This expansion aims to ensure broader coverage and benefits for employees in various sectors.
A significant portion of the new enrollees, approximately 47.7% or 7.36 lakh individuals, are young employees aged up to 25 years. This trend suggests an increasing awareness and participation among younger workers in the ESI Scheme.
Gender-wise analysis reveals that 3.35 lakh female employees were newly registered in February 2025, highlighting the scheme’s role in supporting women’s inclusion in the workforce. Additionally, 74 transgender employees enrolled during the same period, underscoring ESIC’s commitment to extending benefits to all sections of society.
The total number of employees who paid contributions in February 2025 stood at 2,97,04,614, marking an increase of 5,66,219 compared to February 2024. This rise reflects the growing adoption and implementation of the ESI Scheme across the country.
