Experts convene in Bengaluru to address challenges and opportunities in exoskeleton development

The first international workshop on ‘Emerging Technologies and Challenges for Exoskeleton’ is being organised in Bengaluru from April 16 to 17. Exoskeleton technology is about wearable structures that make people stronger. Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDO, and Lt Gen JP Mathew, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC), are part of the event.

Dr. Kamat stressed the significance of exoskeleton technology in both military and civilian realms, urging collaboration among R&D communities, armed forces, industry, and academia to pave the way forward.

CISC highlighted the evolution of exoskeleton research, its current challenges, and its broad applications in rehabilitation and augmentation, emphasizing its commercial potential.

Renowned experts, Prof Robert Reiner of ETH Zurich and Prof Arun Jayaraman of Northwestern University, Chicago, delivered insightful technical talks. Dr. UK Singh, Director General (Life Sciences), outlined the imminent challenges and urged collective efforts to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

With over 300 attendees from DRDO, Services, Industry, Academia, and Researchers, the workshop aims to advance the development of wearable exoskeleton structures enhancing human capabilities.
