The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has upgraded its storage and transportation infrastructure by launching six advanced silo projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model across three states, as said by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution.
These silo projects have been established in Bihar, Punjab, and Gujarat, marking a key achievement for the Department of Food and Public Distribution. The projects align with the ministry’s 100-day objectives.
Developed on a Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate (DBFOO) basis, these projects were realized through private investments and are now fully operational. One of the projects, located in Darbhanga, was developed by M/s Adani Agri Logistics (Darbhanga) Ltd. and features a storage capacity of 50,000 MT along with a dedicated railway siding. This facility was commissioned in April 2024 and is now operational.
Similarly, the Samastipur Silo Project in Samastipur, developed by Adani Agri Logistics (Samastipur) Ltd., also offers a storage capacity of 50,000 MT. This project was completed in May 2024 and is currently operational.
In Punjab, the Sahnewal Silo Project, developed under the DBFOT model by Leap Agri Logistics (Ludhiana) Pvt. Ltd., boasts a 50,000 MT capacity. This facility enhances grain procurement and storage efficiency for local farmers and was completed in May 2024.
The Baroda Silo Project in Gujarat, completed by Leap Agri Logistics (Baroda) Pvt. Ltd. in May 2024, adds another 50,000 MT of storage capacity, further boosting the region’s grain storage capabilities.
In Amritsar, the Chheheratta Silo Project, developed by NCML Chhehretta Pvt. Ltd., offers a 50,000 MT storage capacity, providing crucial storage for grains procured from local farmers. This project was also completed in May 2024.
Lastly, the Batala Silo Project, developed by NCML Batala Pvt. Ltd., was completed in June 2024. This facility, with a capacity of 50,000 MT, contributes to enhancing FCI’s storage infrastructure, benefitting numerous local farmers.
These silo projects and the accompanying transportation initiatives are part of FCI’s ongoing commitment to ensuring food security and minimizing losses through improved storage and transportation infrastructure.
