Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a ₹1,500 crore aid package for Himachal Pradesh, aimed at supporting relief and rehabilitation efforts after floods, cloudbursts, and landslides hit the state.
PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas before chairing a review meeting in Kangra, where he directed officials to adopt a multi-dimensional approach to rehabilitation. He said the Centre would focus on rebuilding homes through the PM Awas Yojana, restoring highways, repairing schools, and supporting farmers and livestock owners.
The Prime Minister also declared an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each to the families of those killed and ₹50,000 for the injured. Additionally, the government will provide an advance release of the second instalment of the SDRF and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi funds.
To ensure education continuity, schools will be allowed to geotag damages for quicker support under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Water recharge structures will be built to improve groundwater levels and enhance long-term water management.
The PM met families affected by the calamity and assured them of the Centre’s full support. “The Union Government will work closely with the State Government in this difficult time and extend all possible assistance,” he said.
The Prime Minister also lauded the efforts of NDRF, SDRF, the Army, state authorities and volunteers in providing immediate relief. Inter-ministerial central teams have already been dispatched to assess the extent of damage, with further support to be considered based on their findings.
“The Central Government is committed to helping Himachal Pradesh get back on its feet,” PM Modi said.
