Gujarat sets Guinness record for performing mass Surya Namaskar on New Year

In a remarkable showcase of health and unity, Gujarat has secured its position in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest number of individuals performing Surya Namaskar simultaneously.

On the morning of January 1, 2024, a staggering count of over 4,000 participants, spread across 108 locations and encompassing 51 diverse categories, actively engaged in the iconic sun salutation yoga sequence. This collective effort solidified the state’s unwavering commitment to wellness and its rich cultural heritage.

The record-breaking event took place against the backdrop of the splendid Modhera Sun Temple, witnessing enthusiastic participation from a wide spectrum of individuals, including families, students, dedicated yoga practitioners, and esteemed senior citizens.

The esteemed presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi at the Modhera celebrations added grandeur to the occasion.

Amidst an atmosphere brimming with joy, the pinnacle of elation was reached when Guinness World Records adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar formally declared the successful attempt.

Speaking about the achievement, Swapnil Dangarikar, Adjudicator at Guinness World Records, expressed, “I was here to authenticate the record for the most people performing Surya Namaskar. This marks a new milestone as no such record had been previously attempted.”

“After meticulously reviewing all evidence and witnessing the collective effort here in Modhera… They have undeniably set a new Guinness World Record title for the most people performing Surya Namaskar…”, he added.

Echoing a sentiment of pride, Gujarat’s Home Minister Sanghavi highlighted, “Today, Gujarat has accomplished the distinction of achieving the country’s and the world’s first world record, where thousands of individuals have participated in yoga sessions across 108 locations and in 51 different settings.”

Sanghavi emphasized the global resonance and acceptance of yoga, stating, “Yoga is increasingly embraced worldwide.
