Health Minister launches AYUSH-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrated Health Research in AIIMS

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, on Monday inaugurated the AYUSH-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrated Health Research at AIIMS.

The minister also announced significant collaborative initiatives between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of AYUSH. These initiatives include a multicenter clinical trial on Anaemia and the launch of Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for AYUSH healthcare facilities.

Additionally, Mandaviya presided over the 27th convocation of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth and the 29th National Seminar on ‘Ayurvedo Amritanam.’

Expressing his enthusiasm for these collaborative efforts, Mandaviya emphasized the importance of research in AYUSH, bridging the gap between traditional knowledge and modern scientific research. He noted that Ayurveda is an integral part of India’s culture and tradition, still practiced in everyday life.

The strategic collaboration aims to advance Integrative Health Research, combining traditional AYUSH practices with modern medical science, positioning India at the forefront of holistic healthcare innovations.

Highlighting the government’s integrative approach, Mandaviya stated that the Union Government aims to provide quality-oriented healthcare by adopting best practices from both Ayurveda and Allopathy. Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) were introduced as uniform standards to enhance healthcare quality. The minister expects that states and union territories will develop AYUSH healthcare services with these standards, enabling the public to benefit from AYUSH medical services.

Congratulating the Ministry of AYUSH for its decade-long journey marked by significant initiatives and achievements, Mandaviya encouraged students to draw inspiration from ancient scriptures and take pride in following these practices.

Integrative Medicine (IM) is an approach to medical care that recognizes the benefit of combining conventional/modern medicine therapies with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies that have been shown to be safe and effective to promote holistic health considering individual’s requirements. IM also addresses the barriers to healing and provide the patient with the knowledge, skills and support to take better care of their physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual health. Rather than limiting treatments to a specific specialty, IM uses the safest and most effective combination of approaches and treatments from the world of conventional and complementary/alternative medicine, the release stated.
