Hungarian parliamentary delegation meets Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh

A parliamentary delegation from Hungary, led by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Lajos Oláh, called on Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh at Parliament on Wednesday, with discussions focusing on democratic cooperation, digital governance and bilateral ties.

Harivansh said parliamentary engagement was an important pillar of India–Hungary relations, complementing government diplomacy by fostering dialogue and mutual understanding between legislators. Recalling his visit to Hungary in March 2024, he expressed hope for more frequent exchanges between the two sides.

Noting that diplomatic relations between the countries were established in 1948 and marked their 75th anniversary in 2023, he said both nations share commitments to democratic governance, constitutionalism and the rule of law.

Highlighting India’s digital transformation, the Deputy Chairman said the country is working on the principle of “technology for public good” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also referred to the ongoing AI Impact Summit in New Delhi and welcomed Hungary’s participation.

Harivansh cited India’s Digital Public Infrastructure initiatives — including Aadhaar, UPI and DigiLocker — as examples of paperless governance and improved service delivery, and called for sharing expertise in areas such as governance, education, healthcare and parliamentary functioning.

He also appreciated Hungary’s support in evacuating Indian nationals from Ukraine under Operation Ganga and acknowledged its participation in specialised training programmes conducted under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative.

Rajya Sabha Secretary General P.C. Mody and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
