IBM to set up AI lab at AICTE HQ, upskill Indian talents

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is partnering with IBM to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) lab within the AICTE headquarters. The move is designed to provide students and faculty in India’s technical education ecosystem with access to emerging-tech training and industry-standard exposure.

The lab will function as a central node for up-skilling in AI, data science and related fields, with a focus on practical learning, certification and curriculum support for technical institutions. It is aligned with broader national efforts to build a talent pipeline that is industry-ready in next-generation technologies.

In the government’s statement, the ministry said the partnership is “committed to ensuring that AI is accessible, inclusive and aligned with our development goals”. By bringing together regulatory bodies, academic institutions and global industry players, the initiative aims to bridge the gap between theoretical education and live job-market demands.

Implementation will include the selection and training of master-trainers, the rollout of workshops and hackathons for students, and the accreditation of participants through certificates and other recognition. The goal: to equip thousands of students and faculty over the coming years with skills that respond to India’s push for a future-ready technical workforce.
