IMD issues yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms in central and southern regions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alert warnings for rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in many parts of the country, including the central and southern regions, over the next four days. According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has further advanced into more areas, including the central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and most of the Bay of Bengal.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Konkan, Goa, Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Karnataka over the next four days. The IMD also predicts widespread rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in the Northeast region, West Bengal, and Sikkim during this period. Some areas in Northwest India will also experience rain and thunderstorms today.

Similar weather conditions are likely in Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand for the next two to three days. Meanwhile, a severe heat wave is expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh until Monday. Heat wave conditions are also likely in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, and Odisha for the next two to three days.

The IMD forecasts that the southwest monsoon will continue to advance into parts of south Chhattisgarh, south Odisha, and the remaining parts of the Bay of Bengal in the next three to four days.
