India-Armenia hold joint working group meeting on Defence Cooperation in Hyderabad

India and Armenia held a Joint Working Group Meeting on Defence Cooperation in Hyderabad on Thursday, further strengthening bilateral ties in the security domain.

The meeting provided a platform for both countries to exchange views on defence cooperation, defence industrial collaboration, and other areas of mutual interest. The Indian delegation was led by Vishwesh Negi, Joint Secretary (IC), while the Armenian delegation was headed by Levon Ayvazyan, Head of Policy and International Military Cooperation Department, Ministry of Defence, Armenia, the Ministry of Defence stated in a post on X.

The discussions follow recent high-level engagements between the two countries. On October 1, Secretary (West) Sibi George represented India at Armenia’s National Day celebrations, reaffirming India’s commitment to the longstanding friendship rooted in history, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Earlier this year, India and Armenia signed two major Memoranda of Understanding during Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan’s visit to India. One MoU was inked between India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and Armenia’s Center of Drug and Medical Technology Expertise (CDMTE) to promote cooperation in regulating medical products.

In June, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, in Marseille, holding discussions on close cooperation and regional developments.
