India, Brazil discuss deeper cooperation in agriculture, bio-inputs and technology

India and Brazil on Friday discussed expanding cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors, with a focus on bio-inputs and technology collaboration, during a meeting between Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Brazilian counterparts.

Chouhan met Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Carlos Fávaro and Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture Luiz Paulo Teixeira Ferreira at Krishi Bhawan, where both sides reviewed ongoing engagements and explored new partnership areas.

Highlighting the “deep-rooted and friendly ties” between the two countries, Chouhan referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brazil during the BRICS Summit 2025 and welcomed Brazil’s participation in the India AI Impact Summit. He described it as “a step forward in deepening technological collaboration”.

Ferreira stressed that bilateral cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors holds significant potential and said several areas could yield mutual benefit.

Fávaro appreciated India’s innovation in bio-inputs, noting the sector’s importance for future collaboration.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation across agriculture and related sectors. Chouhan also invited the Brazilian ministers to participate in the forthcoming BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting.

The Brazilian delegation included Chief of Cabinet Wilson Gambogi Pingeiro Taques, Agricultural Attaché Roberto Carlos Papa, Secretary at the Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations Luiz Renato de Alcantara Rua, and International Advisor Maurício Polidoro.

Among Indian officials present were DARE Secretary Mangi Lal Jat, India’s Ambassador to Brazil Dinesh Bhatia, and senior officers from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
