India to host next global summit: PM Modi at Paris AI Action Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will host the next Global AI Summit, following discussions at the AI Action Summit in Paris. Co-chaired by PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, the summit focused on fostering global cooperation in the development of Artificial Intelligence technologies.

During his concluding address, PM Modi welcomed the establishment of the “AI Foundation” and the “Council for Sustainable AI.” He lauded France and President Macron for their leadership in these initiatives, assuring India’s full support.

“I welcome the decision to set up the ‘AI Foundation’ and the ‘Council for Sustainable AI.’ I congratulate France and my dear friend President Macron for these initiatives and assure our full support,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for greater inclusivity in the Global Partnership for AI, urging it to be more reflective of the priorities and concerns of the Global South.

“To build on the momentum of this Action Summit, India would be happy to host the next Summit,” he said.

Earlier, PM Modi highlighted India’s advancements in AI, particularly the development of its own Large Language Model tailored to the country’s diversity. He underscored India’s unique public-private partnership model, which pools resources like computational power to support start-ups and researchers at affordable costs.

“India is building its own large language model considering our diversity. We also have a unique public-private partnership model for pooling resources like compute power. It is made available to our start-ups and researchers at an affordable cost. India is ready to share its experience and expertise to ensure that AI future is for good and for all,” he said.

In a social media post on X, PM Modi praised the summit as a meaningful platform for conversations around AI.

“The AI Action Summit in Paris is a commendable effort to bring together world leaders, policymakers, thinkers, innovators, and youngsters to have meaningful conversations around AI,” he wrote.

Speaking on the transformative power of AI, PM Modi stressed that machines would never surpass human intelligence or responsibility.

“We are at the dawn of the AI age that will shape the course of humanity. Some people worry about machines becoming superior in intelligence to humans. But no one holds the key to our collective future and shared destiny other than us humans. That sense of responsibility must guide us,” he concluded.

The summit, held at the Grand Palais in Paris, witnessed the participation of global leaders, innovators, and experts, aiming to shape the future of responsible AI development and application.
