The Indian Embassy in Jakarta has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) avatar named ‘Dewi’ to provide updates on Indian culture, travel, scholarships, business, investment opportunities and consular services, as part of efforts to strengthen public outreach and promote India-Indonesia ties.

In a post on X on Tuesday, the embassy unveiled the AI avatar, saying, “Meet Dewi, the new AI face of the Embassy of India in Jakarta!”

“Culture, travel, scholarships, business, investment opportunities and consular updates — all coming closer to you! Bringing you stories and updates from across the India–Indonesia partnership,” the embassy said.

Encouraging people to follow the account for regular updates, the mission added, “Follow us, and say Halo to Dewi! Stay informed, stay connected!”

India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, also shared the initiative on X to mark the occasion of Navaratri and Durga Puja.

“On the auspicious occasion of Navaratri and Durga Puja, our AI Avatar Dewi is here to guide her followers,” Chakravorty said.

The initiative aims to make information about India and the bilateral partnership more accessible to a wider audience, including members of the Indian diaspora in Indonesia and Indonesians interested in exploring India.

According to the Indian mission, Indonesia is home to approximately 1.3 lakh Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and around 15,000 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), many of whom work as professionals, including chartered accountants, teachers and engineers.

Several regional and pan-Indian community associations are also active in Jakarta and other major Indonesian cities, contributing to cultural and community engagement between the two countries.
