India’s Lok Sabha Speaker Represents India at Bangladesh PM’s Swearing-In

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday represented India at the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, extending congratulations on behalf of the people of India, according to an official statement.

The Lok Sabha speaker met Rahman in Dhaka and handed over a personal letter from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, conveying an invitation to the newly elected Bangladeshi leader to visit India at the earliest convenience.

During the interaction, Birla said India stands ready to support Bangladesh in its efforts to build a democratic, progressive and inclusive nation, and reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to deepening the enduring partnership between the two neighbours.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, The speaker also met Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, and Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, the statement said.
