Indo-Nepal border closed due to upcoming Loksabha elections in Bihar

The Nepal-India border in Siraha district will be closed for a total of eight days in two phases, due to the upcoming Loksabha elections in the neighbouring Indian state of Bihar. The elections are scheduled on May 7 in Supaul and May 20 in Madhubani district of Bihar.

According to the District Administration Office in Siraha, transit points will be closed 72 hours before each election date.
Consequently, the border areas were inaccessible from Saturday midnight until May 7 for the first phase and would be closed from midnight on May 17 until May 20 for the second phase.
