Iranian President Pezeshkian Meets President Murmu, Discusses India-Iran Ties

Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan during his first visit to India, with the two leaders discussing the long-standing bonds of friendship between India and Iran, including strong cultural and people-to-people ties.

Welcoming President Pezeshkian, President Murmu expressed appreciation for the support extended by Iran during India’s BRICS presidency, according to a press release from the President’s Secretariat.

“The two leaders discussed the long-standing bonds of friendship between Iran and India, including our strong cultural and people-to-people ties,” the release said.

President Murmu Calls for Dialogue, Diplomacy to Resolve Conflicts

President Murmu reiterated India’s commitment to the pursuit of enduring peace in the region and called for conflicts to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12–13.

The BRICS grouping on Saturday adopted a joint declaration by consensus. Prime Minister Modi announced the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration at the end of the opening day’s deliberations.

India’s BRICS Chairship is guided by the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting the government’s people-centric approach rooted in the spirit of “Humanity First”.
