Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma retain top two spots in ICC T20I batting rankings; England stars make big gains

Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma retained the top two spots in the latest ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings, while several England players climbed the charts after the hosts’ dominant performances against India in the ongoing five-match series.

England, who lead the series 2-0 after the opening match was washed out, registered India’s biggest-ever defeat in T20Is with a 125-run victory in the third match, with the results reflected in the latest weekly rankings update.

England batter Jacob Bethell climbed seven places to No. 8 after his unbeaten 76 off 46 balls in the second T20I.

All-rounder Sam Curran enjoyed gains across all three disciplines. He moved up 12 places to No. 108 in the batting rankings, climbed 12 spots to joint 71st among bowlers and advanced six places to joint 13th in the all-rounders’ rankings after returning figures of 3/33 in the second T20I and scoring an unbeaten 41 in the third.

Leg-spinner Adil Rashid rose one place to No. 3 in the T20I bowling rankings after taking 2/14 in the third match, while fast bowler Josh Tongue entered the rankings at joint 301st following his four-wicket haul in only his second T20I.

Will Jacks also broke into the top 10 of the T20I all-rounders’ rankings, climbing six places to No. 7.

Despite India’s difficult start under new T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, the batter jumped 425 places to joint 93rd in the batting rankings after scores of 68 and 37 in his first two innings of the series.

In the Test rankings, Sri Lanka opener Lahiru Udara climbed 52 places to No. 85 after scoring a career-best 188 against the West Indies in the second Test. Teammate Kamindu Mendis moved up two places to No. 6 after aggregating 128 runs in the drawn match.

Fast bowler Asitha Fernando advanced two places to No. 20 in the bowling rankings after claiming the only five-wicket haul of the Test.

For the West Indies, Justin Greaves climbed 14 places to No. 49 after his 180 helped the hosts secure a draw and retain the Sobers-Tissera Trophy, while Shai Hope rose six places to No. 51 following his century.

In the ODI rankings, Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana jumped 17 places to No. 12 after returning career-best figures of 6/21 against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Zimbabwe pacers Richard Ngarava, Brad Evans and Blessing Muzarabani also climbed the ODI bowling rankings after helping defend 141 in the opening match against Bangladesh.
