The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the PSLV-C59/PROBA-3 mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Scheduled for liftoff at 4:08 PM IST on December 4, 2024, the mission represents a collaborative effort between ISRO and the European Space Agency (ESA).
The mission will entail the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C59 carrying around satellites weighing approx. 550kgs in a highly elliptical orbit.
The PROBA-3 mission is an “In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) mission” by the European Space Agency (ESA).

The mission consists of 2 spacecrafts, namely Coronagraph Spacecraft (CSC) and the Occulter Spacecraft (OSC) which will be launched together in a “stacked configuration” (one on top of another).
The PSLV-C59 is equipped with four stages, including liquid-fuel stages, capable of lifting off a total mass of around 320 tonnes. As India’s first launch vehicle with liquid stages, the PSLV has a long-standing legacy of reliability since its inaugural successful mission in October 1994.
