It was a great journey, says Rahul Dravid as he signs off as India head coach

As India lifted the prestigious T20 World Cup trophy after 17 years, Rahul Dravid reflected on his journey as the head coach of the ‘Men in Blue’, describing it as a “great journey.”

India triumphed over South Africa by seven runs in the final match of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.

This final match of the marquee event marked Dravid’s last game as the head coach of Indian team.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Dravid expressed his gratitude to the team for helping him achieve this milestone. He shared his feelings about winning the T20 World Cup 2024, stating, “It is a wonderful feeling to win such a prestigious trophy.”

The departing head coach emphasized that his achievement was not about redemption. “As a player, I was not fortunate enough to win a trophy, but I always gave my best. I was lucky to get the opportunity to coach this team, and I am grateful to this group of players for making it possible for me to win this trophy. It’s a fantastic feeling, but it doesn’t feel like redemption. It was just part of my job. I loved working with Rohit and his team; it was an incredible journey that I thoroughly enjoyed,” Dravid said.

Dravid also commented on Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is, praising him for his character and dedication. “I will miss him as a person. What impresses me most is his character, the respect he has shown me, his care and commitment to the team, and his relentless energy. For me, it is Rohit the person I will miss the most,” he added.
