Lok Sabha Speaker to attend Commonwealth meetings in the UK, Scotland, and Guernsey

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is on an official visit to the United Kingdom, Scotland, and Guernsey from January 7 to 11,

During his visit to the UK from January 7 to 9, Speaker Birla will meet Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, and John McFall, Lord Speaker of the House of Lords, in London. He will also visit the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Museum, pay respects at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, and engage with members of the Indian diaspora.

In Scotland, Birla will meet Alison Johnstone, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, and John Swinney, First Minister of Scotland. He will hold discussions with cross-party members of the Scottish Parliament.

On January 10, Birla will chair the Standing Committee meeting of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in Guernsey. This meeting is part of the preparations for the 28th CSPOC, which is scheduled to be held in India in 2026. Birla will also meet other parliamentary counterparts during the event.
