Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will inaugurate the first-ever Regional Dialogue on Social Justice, which is set to take place on February 24-25 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This event is being organized by the Ministry of Labour & Employment in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Employers’ Federation of India (EFI), and marks a significant step in contributing to the Global Coalition for Social Justice, which was launched by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 2023.
The Global Coalition for Social Justice brings together governments, employers, workers’ organisations, international and regional organisations, financial institutions, development banks, and other stakeholders to address social justice challenges collectively. As a member of the Asia Pacific Coordinating Group, India is leading this first regional dialogue, promoting the initiative “Responsible Businesses for Inclusive and Sustainable Societies,” focusing on expanding access to productive employment and sustainable enterprises.
Over 80 participants from the Asia Pacific region and beyond will attend the event to explore innovative approaches, exchange best practices, and strengthen collaboration to advance social justice in the region. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Labour & Employment Shobha Karandlaje, and Labour Secretary Sumita Dawra will preside over the inaugural session. The event will also feature ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo as the keynote speaker.
The event will coincide with the 74th Foundation Day of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), celebrating its contribution to social justice through healthcare and social security for India’s workforce. Discussions will cover critical aspects of social justice, including responsible business practices, social protection, and efforts to promote inclusivity and women’s participation in the workforce.
Participants will engage in technical sessions and discussions on topics such as employment and social justice, social protection for informal workers, responsible business practices, and the role of digitalization and AI in achieving social justice goals. Global stakeholders and experts will contribute insights, with a focus on strengthening collaboration to promote social justice in the region.
