Matter of pride for Bihar to host Asia Cup in historic city of Rajgir: Nitish Kumar

Rajgir, Bihar’s historic city, will host the Asia Cup 2025 following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Hockey India and the Bihar State Sports Authority on Monday. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called it a proud moment for the state.

“Hosting the Asia Cup in Rajgir is a matter of immense pride and honour for Bihar. This event is more than just a sporting spectacle—it signifies our dedication to fostering sports and enhancing world-class infrastructure in the state. Rajgir, renowned for its rich cultural heritage, is now emerging as a hub for international sports,” Kumar said in a statement released by Hockey India.

“The tournament’s arrival in Bihar underscores the state’s growing prominence on the global sports stage. We warmly welcome all participating nations and invite fans worldwide to witness top-tier hockey in the heart of Bihar. This event will inspire our youth and unlock new opportunities for sports development in the region. I extend my best wishes to all teams for what promises to be an exciting tournament,” he added.

Scheduled from August 29 to September 7, the tournament will be held at the newly developed Rajgir Hockey Stadium, marking a significant milestone in India’s sports infrastructure. Rajgir previously hosted the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy in November 2024, where India emerged victorious.

The 12th edition of the Asia Cup will feature eight teams, including India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea, China, and Malaysia. The remaining two spots will be decided through the qualifying tournament, the AHF Cup.
